Rate this trip

Situated in central Vietnam, the poetic city of Hue was the nation’s capital from 1802 to 1945. It remains the only city in Vietnam that has preserved its citadel and hundreds of temples and pagodas in their original condition. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1993, Hue offers a unique glimpse into Vietnam’s rich history. Arriving by train provides an excellent opportunity to explore both the rural suburbs and the key attractions of the ancient capital.

Discover Hue: Boat Trip, Village Excursions, and Historic Landmarks

Early Morning
Arrive at Hue railway station where your tour guide and driver will welcome you. Transfer to your hotel to drop off your luggage before beginning your exploration of mystical Hue city.

Mid-Morning
Head to the Huong River (Perfume River) to embark on a Royal boat trip to the villages east of the city. Discover the local life along the riverbanks. Arrive at Tien Non village and enjoy a bike ride through Tien Non, Thanh Tien, and Sinh villages, immersing yourself in the daily rhythm of village life.

In Tien Non village, meet locals working in the fields and vegetable gardens, and visit a family worship house. Continue to Thanh Tien village, known for its 400-year-old tradition of making paper flowers for the New Year festival. Visit Mr. Hieu, a renowned artisan, and learn how to make paper flowers under his guidance. Proceed to Sinh village, the cradle of 400-year-old folklore prints in Hue. Meet Mr. Phuoc, who will explain traditional print techniques. Find beautiful souvenirs before taking the boat back to the city.

Early Afternoon
Break for lunch. Afterwards, visit Thien Mu Pagoda, one of the oldest pagodas in Hue, dating back to 1601. This spiritual highlight is known for its majestic octagon tower and stunning view of the Perfume River.

Late Afternoon
Visit the Hue Citadel, the historic symbol of Vietnam's imperial city, inspired by Vauban’s fortifications. The Citadel comprises three parts: Kinh Thanh (Capital City), Hoang Thanh (Imperial City), and Cam Thanh (Forbidden City). Explore the most beautiful sites in Hue, including the flag tower, the South gate, the Palace of Supreme Harmony, the Dynasty temple area, and the settlement area.
