Day 2 :
Hoi An

Exploring Hoi An the peaceful land by cycling & walking

Your day begins with a pickup from your hotel, heading to the heart of Hoi An town at 8am.

Your first destination is Cam Pho, one of the oldest communal houses in Hoi An. This historical site, shaped like a Chinese character meaning "country," was established for worship and trade, enabling cultural exchanges between locals and Chinese and Japanese traders.

Next, enjoy a relaxed walk to the Chua Cau, also known as the Japanese Covered Bridge. Built in the 17th century, this bridge connected the Japanese quarter with the Chinese neighborhoods and has preserved its original style for over 400 years.

Proceed through Hoi An to visit Quan Thang ancient house. This house is known for its lively architecture and detailed sculptures created by craftsmen from the renowned Kim Bong carpentry village. It provides an authentic glimpse into the daily life of a Hoi An family.

The next stop is the Phuc Kien (Fujian) Assembly Hall. Board a ferry to cross the Thu Bon River to Kim Bong village. During the ride, you can enjoy the fresh air and picturesque landscapes along the riverbanks. Known for its wood carving, the artisans in Kim Bong initially learned their craft from northern Vietnamese techniques and later adopted Chinese and Japanese styles. Cycle around the village to observe daily life and visit a carpenter's workshop, where you can admire their craftsmanship and purchase wood products as souvenirs.

Continue your bike ride along trails to Tra Nhieu village, immersing yourself in the central Vietnamese countryside. Along the way, you will meet locals like Ms. Duoc, who practices mat weaving, Mr. Kha, who makes bamboo sampan baskets, and Mr. Huynh Ri, who operates a craftsman shipyard. The scenic route includes palm and rice fields, buffaloes, and farmers at work.

From Tra Nhieu, embark on a boat trip along the Thu Bon River to Cam Thanh village. Enjoy the scenic views of fishing farms and water palm trees along the way.
Upon arrival in Cam Thanh, take a short rest at the home of Mr. Phong, a local fisherman. Relax with green tea and a foot massage using medicinal herbs grown in the family garden.

Gather vegetables and herbs from Tra Que village for a hands-on cooking session. Learn to prepare local dishes such as crispy pancakes (with meat, shrimp, and beansprouts), Hoi An spring rolls, Tam Huu, and grilled fish in banana leaves. Enjoy the dishes you’ve prepared.

In the afternoon, take a relaxing ride in a small, round bamboo sampan basket boat through the water palm trees forest. This serene activity offers a perfect break after a day of biking.

At the end of the day, transfer back to your hotel.

Travel to Hue, visiting Cham sculpture museum, Hai Van Pass, Thien Mu Pagoda, Khai Dinh King's Tomb

At 8am, move from your hotel to Hue along the stunning coastal road, leading you through the vibrant city of Da Nang. In Da Nang, your first stop is the Cham Museum, a Cham culture and history treasure trove. This museum houses the world’s most extensive collection of Cham artifacts, each piece offering a window into the rich heritage of this ancient civilization.

After soaking in the history, take a leisurely stroll to My Khe Beach. Here, the giant Goodness of Mercy statues at Linh Ung Pagoda stand guard over the tranquil sands. Capture the essence of local life with photos of fishermen casting their nets by the shore, as the sea breeze invigorates your spirit.

Continuing your journey, the drive along the coastline brings you to the Hai Van Pass. Pause at the summit to drink in the breathtaking vistas of the ocean, where the land meets the sea in a dramatic display of natural beauty.

Arriving in Hue, you’ll be welcomed with a delightful lunch, a prelude to an afternoon of exploration.

Post-lunch, Thien Mu Pagoda awaits. As one of Hue’s oldest pagodas, established in 1601, it stands as a spiritual beacon. The majestic octagonal tower and serene views of the Perfume River create a tranquil setting that invites contemplation and awe.

A short drive then brings you to the tomb of King Khai Dinh. Perched on Chau Tru hill and constructed over 11 years, this tomb is a marvel of mixed architectural styles. Ascend the hundred steps to the worship palace at the top, where intricate porcelain decorations, a grand ceiling painting, and a museum of royal artifacts await. The descent offers sweeping panoramic views that encapsulate the tomb’s grandeur and the surrounding landscape.

The day's adventures conclude as you check into your hotel in Hue. Unwind and reflect on the rich tapestry of experiences from a day steeped in culture and history.
