Discovering Saigon city with the best highlights: Independence palace, Binh Tay market, China town, Quan Am pagoda and Fito Museum of traditional medicine

9:00 AM: Begin your day with a visit to the Independence Palace, once the official residence and office of the South Vietnamese leaders. This five-story building is preserved in the style of the late 1960s and early 1970s, complete with a bunker basement and the iconic North Vietnamese tank that famously breached its gates in 1975.

Stroll over to the Saigon Notre-Dame Cathedral, a stunning example of French colonial architecture built between 1863 and 1880. Its majestic presence and intricate details make it a standout landmark in the city.

From there, head to Nguyen Hue Walking Street. Enjoy a leisurely walk through this vibrant area, taking in the lively atmosphere and prominent landmarks.

Next, visit the Saigon Central Post Office, an architectural gem designed by Gustave Eiffel. This working post office, adorned with elegant interior decorations, offers a glimpse into the city’s colonial past.

Drive to Binh Tay Market in Chinatown, Saigon's largest market. This bustling hub is perfect for picking up clothing, souvenirs, and sampling local street food at the food court. The vibrant market scene provides a rich sensory experience of Saigon’s everyday life.

8:00 AM: Start your adventure with a visit to the Cu Chi Tunnels, an extraordinary site from the Vietnam War. These extensive underground tunnels, spanning over 250 kilometers, were ingeniously built by the Viet Cong over twenty years using only rudimentary tools. Explore the tunnels and witness firsthand the complex network that played a crucial role in the conflict.

Afterward, head to the Ben Duoc Memorial, a quieter and more contemplative site dedicated in 1993 to honor the Vietnamese lives lost at Cu Chi. This memorial offers a peaceful setting to reflect on the historical impact of the war.

Next, make your way to the Cao Dai Temple, a fascinating and unique place of worship. Caodaism, the religion practiced here, combines elements of Taoism, Confucianism, Buddhism, and Roman Catholicism. If your timing is right, you’ll have the chance to observe the midday ceremony, a colorful and spiritually rich experience.
