Tour Overview
6 days 5 nights private adventure journey through Hanoi - Lung Cu - Dong Van - Ma Pi Leng Pass - Ban Gioc Waterfall - Ba Be Lake - Hanoi. The route is shaped around clear pacing, trusted local guidance and enough flexibility to adjust hotels, transfers and touring style before quote.
This 6 days 5 nights adventure journey rides the legendary Ha Giang Loop — Vietnam's most dramatic mountain road, roughly 300 km north of Hanoi on the Chinese border. The route links Quan Ba Heaven Gate, Lung Cu Flag Tower, Dong Van Old Town, Ma Pi Leng Pass, Nho Que River, Ban Gioc Waterfall, Nguom Ngao Cave and Ba Be Lake across the Dong Van Karst Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark, a landscape of stone forests, deep canyons and switchback passes.
You travel with a small group (max 10 travellers) with an English-speaking guide, so the timing stays flexible. Pickup, pace and stops are shaped around your group rather than a rigid coach timetable, and the route favours quieter viewpoints and villages over the busiest stops.
The Dong Van Karst Plateau rises to over 1,600 m, where Hmong, Dao, Tay, Lo Lo and Giay communities farm corn between the rocks. The loop's signature is Ma Pi Leng — the 'King of Passes' — carved high above the turquoise Nho Que River and the Tu San Canyon, the deepest in Southeast Asia. Spread across 6 days 5 nights, the itinerary has time to ride the passes slowly, catch the plateau at dawn and reach remoter villages without rushing.
Best suited to travellers who want raw mountain scenery and ethnic-minority culture at the roof of Vietnam — couples, photographers, active families and curious independent travellers. Riding days are long and roads are winding; a basic level of fitness and comfort with mountain travel are recommended. The multi-day format suits those who would rather settle into the rhythm of the mountains than tick boxes.
Ha Giang is at its best in September–November (golden rice harvest and clear skies) and again from late February to April (plum and buckwheat blossom); summer months can bring heavy rain and landslides. Pack warm layers — the plateau is markedly cooler than Hanoi and nights can be cold. Mountain roads, boat trips and trekking are weather dependent and may be modified for safety. From 430 per person, the experience is reconfirmed by date and group size at booking.

Genuinely one of the best travel days of my life
We did the cycling and cooking session as a couple celebrating our anniversary. The guide was warm, the pace was relaxed, and the farmhouse lunch felt completely authentic. Nothing felt staged.

The herbal session at the end was unexpected magic
I booked this mostly for the cycling but the herbal wellness close at the end completely surprised me. Sitting outside with the foot soak after the ride, looking out over the garden — it's the kind of moment you don't plan for.

Private and personal — felt nothing like a group tour
As a Vietnamese-Canadian I was a bit nervous this would feel touristy. It didn't at all. The family we cooked with was genuinely hospitable, the herbs were real, and the guide spoke about the village with obvious pride.

Seamless logistics, beautiful setting
The van pickup was on time, the bikes were in great condition, and every transition between activities felt smooth. My group of four had very different fitness levels and the guide adjusted the pace.

Worth every cent — and then some
I compared four different Hanoi day tours before booking this one. The itinerary description was the most honest and specific I found. What was promised is exactly what was delivered.

Took my parents — best decision of the trip
My parents are in their 60s and I wasn't sure about the cycling. Completely unnecessary worry — the lanes are flat and gentle and the guide made my mom feel completely at ease.
